AVST Acquires Beacon Solutions
Accelerates Position in Delivering Custom Vertical Applications to Increase Business Process Efficiency
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., May 18, 2011 – Applied Voice & Speech Technologies, Inc. (AVST) today announced that it has acquired the assets of Beacon Solutions, Inc. Beacon Solutions is a premier developer of Communications-Enabled Business Process (CEBP) applications that leverage the UCConnect® open development framework that runs on top of AVST’s CallXpress® Unified Communications (UC) platform. As part of the agreement, AVST has acquired Beacon’s technology assets; a set of custom developed vertical CEBP applications for healthcare, education and government; technical expertise and the company’s existing customer base. Financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.
With nearly three decades of experience delivering communications solutions that transform enterprise productivity, AVST has consistently taken the approach that interoperability and an open development framework, such as UCConnect, are the keys to developing a customer-specific or vertical market-specific set of next-generation Unified Communications solutions. According to a March 2011 InformationWeek Analytics report titled, “IT Must Create: 2011 Global CIO Report,” 48 percent of respondents indicated that the primary way their organizations will innovate in 2011 is by making business processes more efficient.
UCConnect, a Microsoft®.NET development framework for CallXpress 8, is a toolkit that enables the creation of custom UC solutions including call processing, notification and alerting applications and other custom or vertical-specific information access and delivery applications. By communication-enabling business processes, these UCConnect applications reduce human latency and significantly improve enterprise productivity.
“The Beacon acquisition secures AVST’s access to a significant collection of existing CEBP applications, as well as the many prestigious customers that have been relying on these UC solutions to automate critical processes within their business,” said AVST President & CEO, Hardy Myers. “We view the ability to integrate communications with information to optimize business processes as a top priority for CIOs worldwide. Our commitment at AVST is to continue to design and deliver the most interoperable, resilient, and open enterprise-class UC solutions on the market.”
“We see more and more companies focusing their efforts on improving business processes,” said Jim Burton, Founder and CEO of CT Link and Co-Founder of UC Strategies.com. “Once evaluated, the ROI for automating high frequency tasks is very clear. AVST has built an open and highly extensible UC platform to make CEBP a reality for businesses of all sizes and in a variety of vertical markets. Now is the time for every business to evaluate its own levels of human latency and determine how to make their business run more efficiently.”
