Enterprise Resliiency with CallXpress

AVST has been designing and delivering best in class communications solutions for nearly three decades with the most extensive telecom and IT interoperability in the market. Their flagship product CallXpress is well known in the industry as a highly reliable and highly interoperable unified communications platform. This latest release CallXpress 8.1 keeps you on the cutting edge, setting a new benchmark in reliability by combining survivability, high availability and remote disaster recovery into a highly resilient platform.

Transform your enterprise productivity by using the UCConnect open development framework to build applications that improve human efficiency, enhance the customer experience, and streamline business processes. AVST further extends its leadership in unified messaging with added support for Google Gmail and other secure IMAP e-mail servers and services, as well as Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Lotus Notes 8.5.

Now let's take a more in depth look at the resiliency of the CallXpress platform.

It all starts with AVST's Multi-Server Architecture which is made up of a mixture of two basic components: a System Server and Call Server. In this newest release, AVST supports up to 20 Call Servers, with up to 384 ports, making CallXpress an ideal solution for multi-site enterprises that need a centralized -- reliable messaging solution.

The Call Servers act as the workhorses that handle the real-time functions on the CallXpress system such as answering calls, taking messages, and performing call processing tasks. By distributing calls across multiple Call Servers, there is a built-in fault tolerance since each Call Server is self contained. If any of the Call Servers fail, there is a reduction of port capacity, but no loss of functionality. CallXpress will continue to take and place calls.

Call Servers are connected to a System Server, which acts as the brain and contains all of the processes and components that need to be centralized in order for the distributed system to function as a single voicemail system, such as the system database and administration interfaces. Continuing on with this resiliency story is Neverfail. CallXpress with Neverfail High Availability offers a secondary, fully synchronized, uninterrupted hot standby System Server to achieve the highest level of availability.

All changes made to CallXpress on the primary System Server are replicated in real-time to the secondary System Server, including application configuration changes, user messages, recorded names, greetings, announcements, and more. Neverfail continuously monitors the health of the primary System Server, and in the event that it detects a failure, fails over to the secondary System Server automatically. Neverfail ensures that the secondary System Server always has an up-to-date copy of everything that is on the primary System Server, so there is no loss of data or functionality.

CallXpress also offers a Neverfail Disaster Recovery solution, which adds a warm standby System Server at a remote location. This ensures your organization can quickly resume mission critical business operations even after a catastrophic event such as a hurricane, fire, or pro-longed power outage. CallXpress offers a variety of deployment options to support your business continuity initiatives:

  • CallXpress Multi-Server Architecture (made up of a System Server and Multiple Survivable Call Servers)
  • CallXpress with Neverfail High Availability
  • CallXpress with Neverfail Disaster Recovery
  • Or CallXpress with both Neverfail High Availability and Disaster Recovery

The high level of resiliency of CallXpress means it is able to answer the phone, transfer calls, and take messages even while you are doing maintenance on the system, such as adding port capacity or additional features, installing an application or OS update, or even when recovering from a hardware failure. It provides a seamless customer experience.

At AVST, we provide Enterprise class resiliency that you can depend on.

Redundant Server Components

CallXpress high-performance servers provide non-stop operations with robust redundancy of components—including redundant hard drives (RAID), hot-swap power supplies and hot-swap cooling fans. These servers stand up to even the most challenging application requirements and the most demanding environments. These purpose-built servers have been designed and tested to support your mission critical communications solutions, so they are sure to meet your needs.

Built-in System Reliability

CallXpress maintains a high level of reliability by utilizing a comprehensive set of server and processing monitoring tools to check the current health and status of the system. CallXpress monitoring tools test and monitor all of the critical system processes to alert you of issues before they can cause problems. CallXpress keeps system administrators updated on the status of their CallXpress system through administrative alerts via SNMP or e-mail.
